Troubleshooting

Fixes for the most common problems with invite tracking, messages, roles, commands and Premium.

Start with /check-permissions. Most problems come from a missing permission or a role placed too low.

Invites are not tracked#

Joins show "I do not have enough permissions to track who invited them"

The bot can't read the server's invites. Give its role Manage Server and Manage Channels, or Administrator. Joins that happened while the permission was missing stay attributed to nobody.

Joins show "I cannot see who invited…"

The bot could not tell which invite was used. This happens when:

  • several members joined at the same second with different invites;
  • the member joined through the server widget, or an invite that has no creator;
  • Discord did not answer in time.

These joins use the Unknown message type. They don't count for anyone.

A member joined with the vanity link

Vanity links (discord.gg/yourname) have no creator, so they don't credit anyone. The join uses the Vanity message type. You can still name the vanity link with an invite label to follow it in analytics.

A bot was added to the server

Bots added through Discord's authorization page don't use an invite. The join uses the Bot message type and credits no one.

Members who joined before the bot are missing

The bot only knows the joins it saw. Run /syncinvites once to import Discord's use counters into the members' invites.

The invite counts look wrong#

  • An invite counted as fake. Check the fake invite rules and the Rejoins count as fake setting. The Fake invites log tells you which rule matched (Premium).
  • The count went down. When an invited member leaves, the invite moves from the total to Leaves.
  • An inviter earns nothing. They may be on the member blacklist, have a blocked role, or the join happened during a raid response or a lockdown that holds invite credit.
  • A member is missing from the leaderboard. They may be hidden from the leaderboards. They keep their invites.

Roles are not given#

  1. Open Server Settings → Roles and drag the InviteCount role above the roles it should give.
  2. Check that the bot has Manage Roles.
  3. The dashboard refuses roles with moderation or administrator permissions, managed roles (bots, boosts) and @everyone.

Messages are not sent#

  • Check that the module is turned on and has a channel.
  • Run /check-permissions channel:#your-channel: the bot needs View Channel, Send Messages, Embed Links and Attach Files there.
  • Join DMs don't reach members who closed their direct messages. Discord gives no way around it.
  • A welcome banner that can't be drawn within 8 seconds is skipped: the message is sent without it.

Commands don't appear#

  • Type / and wait a few seconds. Discord can take a moment to show the commands of a bot that just joined.
  • Most configuration commands are visible to administrators only by default. Server owners can change who sees which command in Server Settings → Integrations → InviteCount.
  • InviteCount has no text prefix. Commands like !invites or ?help don't exist: use the slash commands.

The dashboard doesn't show my server#

You need the Manage Server permission on it. If you just got the permission, click Refresh the list, or log out and log in again.

Premium is not active#

See Activate Premium. In short: link your Discord account in your Patreon settings, wait up to 5 minutes, then activate the server from My premium or with /premium add.

Ticket transcripts are almost empty#

Transcripts contain members' messages only when Discord gives the bot access to message content. Without it, transcripts keep the bot's messages and the form answers. See Transcripts.

Still stuck?#

Ask in the support server. Include your server ID and what you tried.
